Ten years SusChem

SusChem, the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The 12th SusChem Stakeholder Event held on 11 and 12 June in Brussels set an appropriate frame for this event. About 250 registered participants discussed topics such as innovation in the European Union, the new SusChem Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda and innovation opportunities through combined funding.

In his address, Klaus Sommer, Chairman of the SusChem board, stressed that SusChem has played a major role in setting up the contractual public-private partnership ”Sustainable Process Industry through Resource and Energy Efficiency” (Spire). Today, however, SusChem needs to be even more proactive about communicating the benefits of sustainable chemistry and its impact for society. ”The chemical industry represents some eleven percent of all the economy in Europe — essentially nothing works without chemistry,” Sommer said. The Stakeholder Event was directly followed by a Brokerage Session where the participants presented current project ideas
